My Librarian: Katie
Some of my earliest memories are of my mother reading to me in a Cincinnati-area laundromat. It was a wonderful way to pass the time, and long before we moved to a house with a washer and dryer, I was reading independently. I still remember the thrill of reading Cat in the Hat by myself for the first time! In elementary school I imagined myself as Ramona Quimby's best friend, or an honorary Babysitter's Club member. By high school and college most of my reading was assigned, but I managed to fall in love with Jane Austen and Harry Potter along the way. I spent a few years after college as a nomad, serving in AmeriCorps and volunteering everywhere from Oregon to South Carolina, and wore out my Lonely Planet travel guides. These days I enjoy historical fiction and memoirs when I have the time, but I've been delighted to rediscover some old picture books favorites with my son, from Dr. Seuss to Eric Carle.
